Proposal

Your research question: What are you studying? Why? What do you hope to understand?

I am studying the connection between socially constructed policies in housing,  and mortgage lending practices that contribute to homelessness and inequalities in generational wealth potential for African American communities.  I am studying this topic because I am interested in knowing why so many African Americans are experiencing homelessness in the United States.  According to an ABC news report, Dec. 23, 2020, by Karma Allen, 40% of all Americans experiencing homelessness are African Americans. I hope to understand how these policies in housing influence mortgage lending decisions for African Americans, minimizing their opportunities for generational wealth potential for their families, and contributing to their chances of homelessness.
